Giving back to the SLO Community

One for One: it’s a simple idea that has changed millions of lives.  Blake Mycoskie, owner of TOMS shoes, ignited a business on the premise of donating one pair of shoes for children in need around the world for every pair purchased.

At Digital West, we have been following a similar model of giving back to the community since day one.  Our company wouldn’t be thriving today without the continued support of our community.  That’s why we make it a priority to invest back into local non-profits and other businesses who enhance the growth and development of our region.  While our own version of “one for one” looks different than Mycoskie’s shoe model, we’ve seen the importance of giving back to the local community in several different ways.

Non Profit Spotlight: American Heart Association's SLO Heart Walk

Digital West hosts local non-profits' websites complimentary and sponsors community events, but we also contribute to some larger national non-profits as well. This month's spotlight is on the American Heart Association.  On Saturday, October 11, hundreds of San Luis Obispo County residents as well as local businesses will come together for the annual Heart & Stroke Walk hosted by the American Heart Association. This great community building event raises awareness for heart disease as well as money to fund research projects and provide health education to battle the nation's #1 killer.

Ron Brown Awarded Top 40 Under 40 Award

On Friday, September 26, the Pacific Coast Business Times revealed their 2014 list of top 40 up-and-coming business leaders under the age of 40.  Among the honorees is Ron Brown, Director of Operations at Digital West Networks. The list includes both male and female entrepreneurs, community leaders, business owners, and more from Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Supporting Non-Profits in SLO County

It’s time for our monthly non-profit partner spotlight! This month’s organization is the Foundation for San Luis Obispo Public Libraries.  The Foundation is dedicated to strengthening the county’s public library system and has implemented several specific goals.  Some of these goals include advocating with government and other public agencies, community groups, the business community, and the general public on behalf of libraries, reading and literacy as well as a sustained fundraising effort to supplement public tax funding of our countywide system of public libraries.  The Foundation also presents Book & Author Series, including an upcoming event with presenter Anne Perry.  Learn more on their website http://slolibraryfoundation.org/index.shtml.

Happy Monday! Let’s get the week started off right by recognizing our friends at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. With collections that range from photography to painting to sculpture, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art features contemporary California artists. Along with docent led museum tours, they also host a variety of events to meet artists, hear insightful lectures, and more. You can even rent their space for a company party, birthday celebration, or other special event! Visit them at 1010 Broad Street at the end of Mission Plaza most days from 11am-5pm. We appreciate the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art’s dedication to engaging and enriching the community with art education and appreciation.
